Carslbro Mantis Analogue Delay And Modulation Bucket Brigade 1970sVintage 1970-1974Made in UKIncredibly rare and fantastic sounding Carlsbro Mantis analogue delayEarly analogue delay in the style of tape echo including very warm warble/modulation which sounds great (rotofaze section).. it can go from subtle tape echo style to extreme modulation which is very coolFeatures 8 of the highly sought after Philips TDA 1022 512 stage bucket brigade chips5 internal trim pots for refinement of delay length, duration and depth Carrying handle that can also be used to stand / position it on an angleLarge and very cool looking like all the great old units (70s Electro Harmonix anyone?)The sound is like a Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man on steroids – its fat, punchy, warm and 3D like Self oscillates when swell fader pushed up (for some cool crazy effects)Also features a wet only output, perfect for using as a studio outboard device, as well as mixed output (so perfect for tracking or general guitar/instrument delay use as well)The buffer on this sounds incredible on guitars going in to amps, fat and punchyAble to distort the input and use as an outboard distortion/saturation device The first slide knob is smaller than the others, it may have been replaced at some point in its life.. most of the units Ive seen for sale in recent years had several slider knobs missing so it seems like a common occurrence!Recently serviced and fully working
From another seller on Reverb:It has 4 buttons which represent delay times ranging from short to long. Its “swell” section has another 4 buttons to determine number of repeats and its “swell” fader helps control (or lose control) of echo feedback.
Additionally, the Mantis has a “Rotafaze” section to dial in some modulation, which, when used subtly, simulated the flutter and wow of old tape delays. This effect is one you really miss when it’s not on! Input and output faders control volume on the way in and out – super useful for distorting the box or driving whatever device is downstream.
In addition to its main output, it also has a 100% wet mix output, making it extremely useful as a studio effect this is easily one of the coolest and best sounding delays we have ever heard.

Controls:
RotafazeSpeed
controls the speed/rate of the LFO wave that controls the effect
Depth
controls the depth/amplitude of the modulation (the size of the range in which the effect sweeps).
EchoEcho
controls the amount of delay (time).
Tone
controls the frequency of small boosted range of frequencies, turning the knob clockwise moves that frequency from low to high (bass to treble).
Swell
sets the amount of effected signal fed back into the effect for more repeats
MantisInput
controls the input level of the effect. At higher gain settings a lot of effects can go into overdrive or distortion.
Output
controls the output volume of the effect
