This is a PC or MAC Surface controller for use with leading DAWS eg Logic Pro Tools etc. Built like a tank and robust and not cheap plasticky enclosure and is quite heavy. The 24 motorised faders are switchable in banks of 8 eg 1-8, 9-16, 17-24 and is limitless depending on your DAWS track count limits or project and number of tracks you used. So if your song had 60 tracks, next banks would be three button presses giving control over 25-32, 33-40,41-48 and so on
Can be used during multitrack recording process as far as am aware ( I only used in post ) and for mix downs assuming you had loads of hands you can fade may tracks at the same time, one suggestion ie probably via subgroup idea as in overall drum volume eg. So no longer using stupid limiting mouse that can only adjust one fader at a time. This is a fabulous essential tool for automating your mix, trying out ideas and via cloned projects quickly switching between different mixes for comparisons and final decision on preferred mix.
Many DAW users have been caught out and lost money by buying USB versions etc, and lost 0000’s due to product lasting a mere three years and then becoming obsolete or a doorstop 🙂 Tascam is a good eg, they had a 24 track similar product and several thousand users were left hostile as it was no longer compatible with latest OS and USB and Product drivers ceased. When I challenged Tascam and other manufacturers, they all said similar , suport for up to THREE OS upgrades only and after that no guarantee the drivers would work as driver development ceased. I had this problem with the fabulous Behringer BCA2000 and their surface controllers. By investing in old fashioned midi system, it has outlived competition and soldiers on day after day as best investment I made in my setup. So much so that have two of these giving me a massive desktop layout with 48 tracks !!!! real time surface controllers, with LED simulation of metering via the DAW window dedicated to a DELL 24″ Pro monitor leaving my second DELL for effects and plugin GUI’s and my 55″ 4K Monitor as my Timelines for editing etc. Obviously everyone has different tastes and preferences for what kit they buy and how they use their DAW, so am happy to share my above setup which also has to double as an NLE workstation. I use the Shuttle Pro for transport Control of the DAW, and I worked in Logic on my MAC.
