This auction is for a used Teac Tascam 246 Portastudio 4-track mixer/recorder. The unit is in excellent all-round condition and in good working order.
Back when I bought this (mid 1980s) the 246 was considered one of the “top end” products of its type. It managed to combine in a small package a full function 6 input mixer with a four track, 2 speed cassette recorder and dbx noise reduction.
Technology has moved on considerably since then and the power of the new digital platforms is just amazing. Having said that, the sheer number of features available with the computer based recording/editing facilities can be a bit daunting and are not always intuitive for amateurs and newcomers. Sometimes it can help to get back to basics and a “hands-on” approach – real knobs and sliders instead of keystrokes. So there’s still a place for this older analogue equipment. It’s a great way to learn the basics of multi-track recording/editing and kind of fun to use.
This particular item has been in dry storage for over 20 years and I had it serviced by a professional engineer a few months ago, including new drive belts, wheel rollers etc. Now it’s all working and ready to go.
Included in the sale are:
the original Owner’s Manual – over 40 pages of detailed information regarding the operation and use of the unit.a copy of “Home Recording for Musicians” by Craig Anderton – 182 pages of detailed and technical information on the subject.a copy of “Making 4-Track Music” by John Peel – 95 pages of general (less technical) information.
I recommend that if you’re are interested in this item please contact me to arrange a visit to come and check it out and so be sure of what you are bidding on. I’ve set the auction duration for 10 days to allow plenty of time for this. I’m near Boston in Lincolnshire.
The item will be for collection only as it’s a bit too fragile to be put in the post or with a courier. That way you can test it before you leave here and so be happy with your purchase. Payment by Paypal is preferred although Cash on Collection is fine too.
The starting bid is low and there’s no reserve – you might just bag a real bargain.
