Synchronisation unit, for synchronising audio recording equipment to MIDI sequencers/recorders/digital audio workstations.
In ‘Write’ mode, the unit outputs either SMPTE or FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) Time Code, for recording on one track of the audio recording.
In ‘Read’ mode, the unit reads incoming SMPTE or FSK, and outputs either MTC (MIDI Time Code), DTL (Direct Time Lock), or FSK (Frequency Shift Keying); the output is encoded as MIDI.
The unit has been tested by striping an SD disc recorder with SMPTE, and then synchronising a project in Cubase Elements 6 to the audio from the SD recorder.
The unit was bought in c.2001 for synchronising multi-track analog tape to Cubase (running on an Atari ST), and was used for this purpose purpose until 2002, since when it has been in storage in my (centrally heated) workroom.
The unit has its original manual (v.2, dated July 1991).
The +9V 550mA centre-positive power supply is brand new (the model is an XP-Power “VEL05”, with a UK-style plug base).
