VERY RARE LAST OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A PIECE OF BBC BROADCASTING HISTORY.
THIS VERY HISTORIC MIXING DESK …. DK4/19 DESK FROM BUSH HOUSE FROM STUDIO 35, ( S35)
WAS THE PROTOTYPE DK4/19 DESK AND THE VERY 1ST TO BE INSTALLED IN BUSH HOUSE .
THIS DESK WAS ALSO USED CEREMONIOUSLY FOR THE FINAL CLOSING BROADCAST FROM BUSH HOUSE
WHEN IT WAS CLOSED IN 2012 BY MARK THOMPSON THE DIRECTOR GENRAL OF THE BBC .

DK4/19 is from the BBC Designs Department equipment numbering system from the days when the BBC designed its own broadcast equipment, e.g. desks were DK/?/?, amplifiers were AM/?/?, loudspeakers were LS/?/? etc.
The first number was it’s type, so a DK4 was a sound studio desk, other numbers were for different types of desk (tape, video, lighting etc), the last number was the next available number for that type. So a DK4/19 was the nineteenth studio desk to have been designed by the BBC. Not all 19 would have been actually put into service some may have not gone beyond the drawing board.
S35 (studio 35 ) was the first DK4/19 to be installed and was the prototype and the only one when it was installed.
It was made at Avenue House in Chiswick, the site of the BBC’s wiring and mechanical workshops (which closed in 1986 or so).
They were loved by the studio managers for their simplicity which was ideal for the 15 minute, one operator transmissions that WS did in the 1980s.
