You are looking at a classic 1960 Shure Brothers 55 S dynamic cardioid microphone with period cable and red Shure mic sleeve. This 1960 model was the very last 55S with the royal blue silk screens and royal blue Shure badge. Shure Brothers changed the design of the 55S in 1961 giving the mic black silk screens and a flat front lower pistol grip with a rectangular silver badge. I personally love the look of the earlier models such as this as they seem to be quite a bit classier. This legendary microphone was used by many famous artists and politicians over the years including Elvis Presley and even the young revolutionary Fidel Castro. Those clean lines and deco styling make this mic stand out from all the others produced over the last century. Made in Evanston, IL U.S.A. This mic is a nice piece of midcentury Americana. As seen in the pictures provided this mic shows very lite cosmetic wear. The satin chrome glows nicely but shows a few tiny scratches here and there. There are no broken or bent ribs either. The royal blue silk screens show no discoloration and zero rips or holes which is always a bonus. Mic is solid…no loose parts inside or out. The threads for both the stand and cable are excellent and the joint mechanism holds strong. The Shure label looks very nice as well. Overall this mic is a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 – 10. It should be noted that this mic has an excellent working dynamic cardioid element with strong output and a warm smooth tone. Many of these older mics barely work at all or lack the bass associated with a good working 55S. The impedance switch only works on Medium and Low however so you’ll want to use some gain to boost the signal. High impedance is always the strongest setting which most people use these on but again…some good gain will set this mic right and won’t disappoint. You can use this for any live event and uni-directional qualities on these mics are outstanding. The mic comes with it’s original mic sleeve cover that’s in very nice condition. It’s great to store the mic in while not in use or simply slip it over the mic while on the stand to keep the moisture and dust off which is the general cause of pitting on these chrome microphones. A vintage mic cable is also included in which to operate this mic. It’s a long 24 feet in length and has a male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector for use with most modern audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. Cable is soft, pliable and free of damage. Just typical stains and marks on the exterior of the cable. This is one very nice looking mic and would make an excellent display piece even if you choose not to use it. As with all my vintage microphones… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not…I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that’s fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition…period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be open and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and…thanks for looking. Country of Manufacture United States Model 55 S Type Vintage Microphone Brand Shure
