Here’s my trusty vintage Tascam 38, half inch, 8-Track reel to reel tape recorder.
I used this for many years in my home studio and it was a fantastic machine – producing beautiful analog tape recordings which I don’t feel can really be replicated by modern digital machines, but it has spent the last 12 years in storage since I packed up my studio.
Condition – Please read carefully…
The Tascam worked well when I put it away, however after this long break it will need a full service to get back to full working order. I switched it on to give it a quick check, but the tape wouldn’t roll, so I imagine it probably needs a new drive belt at least.
As it has been in storage for so long and I no longer have a mixing desk, I have no way of testing it fully, so I cannot honestly offer any guarantees, but these are pretty rugged beasts so I believe it should be possible to return it to former glory with a good service by a qualified service engineer. I can recommend someone in East Sussex who has previously serviced my analog machines.
It has a few other age related cosmetic issues – you should be able to see these in the photos – quite a few scratches on top, a couple of the VU meter lights are not working – though the meters themselves certainly worked when last used.
It comes with the original plug-in remote control unit and an empty tape reel.
The tape recorder is massively heavy so I’m afraid it’s collection only, unless you want to arrange a courier.
You are very welcome to come and see the Tascam in Hastings East Sussex and please feel free to message me with any questions.
I also have 2 DX-4D dbx noise reduction units for sale separately, (see last photo) if you want these you can have them for 75. They plug straight in between the Tascam and your mixing desk using phono leads.
