The fitted superview editing system turns this DR16 into a fully stand alone multi-track recorder & visual editing system that doesnt need a PC. Up to 8 tracks can be recorded at a time, with virtual ‘takes’ to chose from, and 16 track play back via individual outputs and or the headphone output as a stereo bus. There is a SPDiF i/o via rcas and AES/EBU via XLRs i/o. All metal professional construction. In my opinion the AD DA convertors sound great on this despite its age, especially compared to alot of current PC based consumer stuff now available.The maximum sampling rate is 48khz and coupled with the higher quality anti aliasing filters AKAI nailed it when they made this.
Ideal for someone who wants to retain their (analogue) mixing desk and or outboard settup but wants the advantage of digital editing.
Alternatively can be used on its own as an 8 track location recorder given its inbuilt mic pres, mixer and headphone output.
The fitted hard drive provides around 56 hours of track recording time. I am also including a second unfitted hard drive as a spare, plus an adaptor to give the option of using both 50 and 68 pin scsi 2 drives.
Also included is a sony STD5000 scsi DAT tape machine that can be used for longer term storage. Giving the option to save recording sessions to the tape drive while you clear the HD for other projects. To do this is a more lengthy process than say a PC based system however it is totally immune from updates, software changes, configuration changes etc.
