Alice Stancoil Pre Amp / mixer with marinair and Sowter transformers.

This is a bit of an odd mixer – I believe it was part of a larger mixing desk installed by Nigel Grey at Surrey Sound Studios ( The Police, Siouxsie and the Banshees) in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Since then It has been modified to work as a standalone unit.

4 balanced TRS Jacks on channels 1 – 4 feed through Sowter 3267 Transformers and Penney & Giles Faders, through the preamps, too the summing amplifier which provides a balanced output via a Marinair T501 transformer. (Output is XLR)

The 5 switches on the top panel patch any of the four channels or the main output into another balanced output (XLR)

Additionally there is an additional input, which looks like it would have been part of the talkback system – a mic input feeds either to another output (balanced TRS jack) or to a small loudspeaker via a 4 pin XLR

The yellow button is not connected.

Everything works as it should and whilst I am not experienced or equipped to do a proper appraisal of the sound, it does sound really good and the noise floor seems very low.

Free Postage to  mainland UK excluding Highlands and Islands.
