A brand new & boxed Audient Nero monitor controller, won in a prize draw but not needed for my particular setup.
This is a very comprehensive unit that features 4 stereo input sources with gain control and 3 pairs of stereo monitor outputs, so you can switch between different input sources (for example, main stereo out from DAW, stereo out from a DJ setup, stereo out from a phone & one from a mic pre etc etc) and simply switch between them, to separate monitors (main pair, plus nearfields, plus a grotbox pair for example). You also have a separate output for a subwoofer.
There are also coax and optical digital inputs, if for instance your audio interface has them, which can save on your analogue ins and outs.
You can switch polarity, switch to mono, dim the output (reduces volume by a preset amount if, for instance, you need to answer the phone) or mute the output altogether.
There is a built-in talkback mic with adjustable volume control, or you can use the XLR input on the back to plug in your own. It has switchable phantom power, so you can use a condenser mic for this purpose if you prefer.
In addition, you have 4 headphone sockets, each with their own volume control (so producer, singer and two musicians can each have their own separate headphones and control their own volume.)
Plus there’s a massive volume control right in the middle!
It’s perfect for a mixerless studio setup, where you need to monitor & switch between several sources to more than one pair of monitors.It is compact and light enough to take on sessions with you with your laptop and is ideal if travelling to an unfamiliar studio as it enables you to grab control of your monitoring environment and volume.
In the second picture, you can see all the back panel connections. On the front there is only the HP1 headphone sockets available on 1/4″ jack or 3.5mm mini-jack.
The third picture shows the original box in which the unit will be shipped (in an outer box of course). The unit was only removed for the purposes of taking the main picture, it has never been removed from the plastic bag it is in.
