Welcome to the sale of my Behringer Ultramizer Pro DSP1400P 24bit loudness maximizer and program enhancer. It is in essence as dual band compressor and limiter designed for easy mastering with a high frequency exciter, a bass booster, a stereo spreader and an adjustable crossover. Ins and outs are on XLR and 1/4″ jacks, it can be controlled by midi and has a load of storage banks to save your settings. I originally bought it in 2004 to use as part of my mastering chain when I recorded in analog on tape and mastered to CD for self release. Once I had moved to computer recording I did all of my mastering in the box, but this became a useful tool for live performances.
I would use it in two ways. When playing bass live I would put it on the effects chain of my amp and use it as a mild compressor to smooth out my stage sound. I would also use it when doing live sound engineering and have the main out from the mixer pass into this before sending it on its way to the amps. It was mostly acting as a limiter to protect the amps and speakers, but being able to apply mild mastering processes in real time to a live performance gave a great sound as well as that protection.
I used to work as a DJ for about ten years and in most venues I played, behind the scenes they had one of these or something similar just balancing up the sound and protecting their gear from irresponsible DJ’s and I think that is probably its most realistic use these days now that most mastering is done in the box. It is easy to just send a demo mix through it for speed though to get the levels up to what you’d expect. its in good condition as it has always been in a rack and everything works as it should. I no longer have the manual, but it’s quite user friendly and is available on manualslib anyway. Thanks for reading.
