This system is a proprietary A/D conversion process to preserve the essence of the analogue signal when converted to the digital domain. It helps retain the warmth of analogue by emulating the extended headroom of analogue tape.
The system splits the audio frequency band into four. Each band can then be processed, either gated, compressed or limited. The four bands are then summed by dbx`s True RMS Power Summing . The intelligence of these RMS detectors allows the signals to be converted to the power domain, then summed together in the power domain. This produces a true sum of the energies.
