Digitech Vocalist Live Pro – Harmony & Effects Processor in very good condition. This is a fantastic pice of kit and a very reluctant sale. If you’re looking for a rackmount vocal processor for live use that will do everything including harmonies this is it. There is nothing like it available in it’s price range, period. We have been using two of these in our band fora  bit of compression, de-essing, adt, Lexicon reverb, delay and when needed a harmony or two and in some cases an extra vocal an octave up. We even used to create the vocoder sound for Mr. Blue Sky. We ran the main vocal out the main outputs and the harmonies out out the aux ouptuts which gave us great control. I cannot sing the praises of this unit enough and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to message me. If you are a singer this is all you will ever need either on stage or even in the studio. It’s brilliant!

Review:

I bought the Digitech Vocalist Live Pro to replace the Digitech Vocalist VHM5 that I owned. The improvements in vocal processing technology since then forced me to update. There are 99 Presets and 99 User patches, and you can save your patches to a PC via a USB port. Digitech provides free Library software on their website to not only back up the unit, but once your files are copied onto your PC, you can rearrange the order of your patches and load them back onto the Vocalist in more convenient locations. In addition to Digitechs MusIQ chord recognition technology, the Vocalist Live Pro has MIDI, so your can provide the correct chord information via a midi channel, as well as Midi Program and Control Changes. If you dont play an instrument, you can sing acappella and the Vocalist will provide the correct harmonies, all you do is set the key and what scale you are using, and the Vocalist does the rest.

L/R Stereo aux outputs, L/R XLR main outputs, S/PDIF out, ground lift, and selectable output routings. Each voice can have its own output at the mixer level. There is also a separate FOH output to send the lead vocal to a FOH PA system so the harmony never over powers the lead singer. There are footswitch and expression pedal jacks for remote control of presets and effects. On-board guitar tuner and pitch correction for each individual voice with 4 adjustable parameters.

One of the biggest improvements is it has instrument level (line) output, so its a hot signal. You dont have to crack your amp/mixer way up to keep your vocals above the music. This unit also has a noise gate, so its whisper quiet between songs.

As is the case with most multi-purpose sound/effect devices, when switching to programs with different effects, there can be a pause in the action while the FX reset. This can be avoided on the Vocalist live by using Control Changes in your MIDI data to the unit to add/subtract the first, second, and third harmony part to your lead vocal, rather than switching to a completely different user patch. If a patch change is necessary, I insert the correct chord again into the data so that when the FX reset, it has instructions as to what harmonies to provide. A little planning goes a long way.

The Vocalist Live Pro build quality is excellent. The case appears to be solid and the assembly looks neat. I play weekend gigs and have been using it almost a year moving it around every time I play with no trouble. I keep it in a rack case and handle it myself so I suspect I will get years of service out of this like I got out of my original Vocalist.

The Vocalist Live Pro sounds great. You can easily distinguish the individual voices in the harmony mix, very clean. There are so many ways to tweak the vocals in this unit that its pretty amazing, especially considering the low price for what you get. You can use it for doubling and then add different vocal enhancements (individual persona and gender selection per voice) just the harmony part(s) or both. It has Lexicon licensed effects, a Sound Craft low-noise studio grade Preamp, so you’re working with world-class quality. People that have heard me using it, including other musicians, have commented on how realistic it sounds.

One of the things I like about Digitech products is they are so easy to use. You dont have to be an engineer to get your head around this product. It was made for musicians.

I expect to have this unit a long, long time. It has so many features and even after almost a year of use, I still haven’t tried a lot of things that it can do. I think Digitech has a leg up on competing products because its easier to use and not as expensive as some of the other brands and yet it sounds fantastic.
