Korg DW-8000 Polyphonic Synthesizer (1985)
This is a lovely synth from Korg, it’s an 8-voice poly capable of producing some truly wonderful sounds, and one of only a handful of hybrid synths that combine digital sound generation with fully analog filter and amplification section. It’s possible to conjure up screaming leads, soaring pads and tight analog bass, as well as excellent bells and chimes. There are plenty of videos online showing what this synth is capable of, it’s truly an underrated classic!
This synth is in excellent condition and all features work fully. Please note the two of cracks to the plastic body, shown in photos 9 and 10. These were present when I acquired the synth and do not have any impact on functionality or the overall rigidity of the case, but I felt it important to mention.
It’s possible to upgrade the original waveforms used for sound generation, and this has been done on this synth, using the patch set purchased from Analog Audio, which you can hear on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bh_xr_5DPw
Should you prefer to use the original sound set, these are included on a CD, you simply play the .WAV file back into the synth’s tape inputs to load a bank.
A full printed manual is also included.
A major advantage of this synth is that it is possible to control all the parameters in realtime over MIDI, using SYSEX. This can either be done by a software based programmer, or a hardware controller that supports SYSEX messaging. Photos 11 and 12 show the Novation SL Zero Mk.II atop the synth (which I am also selling in a separate listing). I have installed a DW-8000 SYSEX mapping on this controller, so you have realtime encoder and slider control over things such as oscillator waveform, filter and amp envelope, delay, modulation, LFO etc.
There is also a dedicated hardware controller/programmer available for this synth, the DW-8P made by Retroaktiv.
Due to the age, weight and fragility of this synth, it is collection only and I will not post it.
