Up for sale is a Korg EX-8000 Programmable Polyphonic Synth Module Rackmount Synthesizer in EXCELLENT condition (power cable included). The uploaded pictures are pictures of the actual item for sale, NOT a “stock” or “stolen” picture. Time escapes me at this moment, but if you’re looking at this listing, you most likely are already aware of why people LOVE the EX-8000. This is the rackmount version of the DW-8000, & it is EXTREMELY rare to find (mostly because people who own them absolutely refuse to let them go). If you’re into deep analog synth basses, PHAT analog pads/strings, searing analog leads, crazy sound fx & the like, then this unit will likely become a favorite in your rig as it does all of the above with grace. I grabbed this a couple years ago when looking for something that would put me in the ballpark of a Moog Minimoog for analog synth bass/lead duties & a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5/Roland Jupiter 8 on analog pad/string duties, & to say that this unit has fit that bill on every level would be an understatement. It also has a really nice delay, along with an arpeggiator. It is an ANALOG synth, but it is DIGITALLY-controlled, which means no nightmares with trying to get those oscillators to stay in tune. I particularly love it for the analog synth bass/lead duties as one of the two “unison” modes is “single-trigger”, which means that it only triggers the envelope ONCE when the first note is played & does not re-trigger it again until after all notes are released (a feature that Moog Minimoogs are known for when playing those legato synth bass/lead lines, & a feature that seems to be flawed or missing altogether on soo many synths). Combine this feature with the programmable portamento, aftertouch, 8-voice polyphony AND patch storage, & you have a unit that stands neck & neck with the best analog synths ever created (at the cost of only 2 rack spaces & roughly 16 lbs). If I had the time (along with the patience to deal with the link posting limitations that run rampant on eBay), i’d post some audio samples, but i’ll just say that my FAVORITE patches would be #61-68, along with patch #11 (which is the beautiful analog pad that made me fall in love with this synth at first listen). The REAL magic happens once you start programming your own sounds, however, & you can rest assured that you you’ll see & hear exactly what i’m talking about once you dive in & start programming your own sounds. There is so much more I could say about this synth, but I will leave that to the reviewers at vintagesynth.com & all over the internet if you’re not already aware of how awesome this box is.I will probably regret letting this go the minute it sells, & I will likely change my mind if it happens to NOT sell in a reasonable amount of time, but at this point I just have some other more pressing items to take care of over the next couple weeks & I would really like to knock some things out a little early if possible. My hope is that this unit will find a good home, as has been the case rather quickly with 2-3 previously listed units over the last year or so (these RARELY show up for sale).
*** QUICK NOTE ***
As you will see in the uploaded images, two modifications have been made to this unit in order to provide a better experience for the end-user. First, this unit uses a 3v CR2032 lithium battery for memory storage, which was an absolute NIGHTMARE to reach in it’s original location; The battery holder has since been modified/relocated from its original position for easy access, once time comes to change the battery (they last for many years). Lastly, the original/non-standard “Korg” 2-prong ungrounded AC power connector was always a MAJOR headache in cases where the non-standard 2-prong ungrounded AC power cable turned up missing (good luck finding one of those at your local music/hardware store); This AC connector has since been replaced with a standard 3-prong grounded IEC AC connector, thus preventing any similar headaches if/when the included power cable happens to turn up missing. While these modifications are minor, rest assured that these are two modifications that you will wish you had once that battery reaches the end of its life cycle &/or the power cable turns up missing!
As far as the condition, it is about an 9//10 cosmetically (see uploaded pictures). Aside from some slight rack rash on the top (see uploaded images), this unit is in VERY good shape for its age & it is built like a tank. Please be sure that you know how to PROPERLY operate these units & do your research ahead-of-time to ensure that these units will work for your application!
