Vintage LEM DU25C. It’s a 200 ohms cardioid reporter’s mic from France.
The LEM DO21 has been the most popular reporter’s mic in France since the 1960s. It’s a small omni-directional microphone. Its only other competitor is Sennheiser’s MD21, but the DO21 is more popular. The DU25 is the cardioid version, which is generally more useful in a recording studio. Great on brass instruments, as it doesn’t pick up the wind noise. And great for percussion, as it picks up transients very well. Of course, it’s also good for voices (which it was designed for), and acoustic instruments in general.
This mic is from the 1970s. They don’t make them anymore. The DO21 is still made though, and costs about 370.00 (about 332.00!).
I’m told that the DO21 and DU25 have the same capsule, so I would guess that it’s only the rear-porting of the capsule that changes the pick-up pattern from omni to cardioid.
This one has a crack on the plastic that surrounds the grille. It has been like that since I’ve owned it, and has never got any worse. It doesn’t affect the sound in any way.
