Owned by myself from new since 2011, this magnificent Mellotron M4000 is now surplus to requirements.
Never gigged with home use only.
Being honest and open I inform that this truly iconic instrument does have a few chips on the cabinet due to repositioning around the house a few times.
These are slight imperfections and shown in the photographs but this does not detract from its performance.
The Cabinet also has some patination by way of shrinkage to the paint finish, this is very common with lacquered plywood construction.
Again this does not detract from its performance.
This is a solid instrument, mechanically perfect and never seen in the secondhand market!
This instrument is supplied with kettle lead and the sounds menu of 24 classic mellotron sounds.

Next we come to the price of a machine that I understand now costs in the region of 6500 + VAT at 20% and potentially lengthy lead times for a new machine.
Lesser machines such as the aging M400 do occasionally appear on ebay or Reverb and prices vary considerably as shown below.
There is an M400 located in Germany for sale on ebay at a price of 6900, needless to say it hasnt sold yet and it only has has 3 sounds, whereas an M4000 has 24 sounds and is mechanically superior (reliable) whilst retaining that beloved etherial sound.
An Italy based M400 is also for sale on Reverb at 5300 and is fairly beat up and no doubt in need of restoration.
You may have of also seen a MK6 M400 on sale on Ebay at 5000 (now reduced to 3.5k). Though a newer instrument this is no match for a proper Mellotron made in England by proper craftsmen with generations of finely honed skill sets.
So what about my machine?
Taking into account the slight cosmetic imperfections, the cost of a new M4000 and that of an old beat up M400, I feel 5000 is a fair ask whilst benefitting from not having to endure a VAT payment.
Given the price and weight of this item I insist on collection in person please as shipping will be hugely expensive, so best avoided.
Collection ensures the buyer goes away happy with an item in working order with no comebacks.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
I will not ship nor courier, any winning bids that attempt to try it on with a courier will have their purchase cancelled.
Waiting in for couriers is a pain in the arse, I will not do it.
Don’t even ask to courier prior to bidding, you will be ignored!
You will also be ignored for trying to haggle, the start price is the minimum I am willing to accept, there is no ‘buy it now’
Other than that I am a friendly chap and will greet you with courtesy and respect.
Item located SG11
Thanks for looking
