Pair of Chandler Germanium Compressors with PSU.
I am selling my pair of Chandler Germanium Compressors due to downsizing the studio to a minimal hybrid setup after a move.
These very special comps have a unique tone and a completely unique feature set. They can be clean or very coloured, or anywhere in between, depending on how you set them up. You can gently control peaks or smash the hell outta things.
They have control over input level, ratio, side chain filter (which can be set at 30, 60, 90, 150 and 300hz), a very special knee/curve knob (six settings featuring germanium, silicon and zener diode combinations), a mix knob (for on board parallel compression), a stereo link switch and a clean/dirty comp switch (to introduce a higher level of harmonic distortion), as well as standard attack and release controls.
They are fantastic on the mixbus and drumbus, but have a very wide range of uses. This is Chandler gear, so they are colourful boxes. They can be fairly clean, but transparency is not their forte.
The comps also have chandler’s unique output section with separate drive and feedback controls that provides lots of gain and depending on how you set them and how the two controls interact, they can add variable amounts of distortion and/or high/low frequency lift.
Beautiful sounding compressors they are.
These germs work perfectly and come with the separate PSU that you have to buy separately and which powers both units. The cable to run from the PSU to the units is of course provided too.
As per the photos the compressors are in good condition. There are some light marks and scratches, but nothing major. There is some rack rash but the faceplates are in generally very nice condition.
One unit has one rack ear that is slightly bent (see photo of it from the side), but as you can see from the other photos the unit can be racked absolutely fine.
These compressors retail for an average of 1600 EACH new in the UK currently, with the PSU selling for an additional 300.
So this is a chance to grab a pair of wonderful high end compressors for a bargain price.

Germanium Compressor
The Germanium series continues with the GERMANIUM Compressor. The Germ Comp starts with the same all class A amp found in the Germ Pre and Tone Control and is transformer balanced in and out. The compression circuit uses an FET gain reduction element but with the tricks and flexibility of all the Germ units. Some of the most notable additions include a Wet/Dry mix (for “submixing” tracks within the comp), Comp Curve (which selects the knee using various diode combinations), Clean/Dirty comp and Sidechain filter. Many of the Germ Comp parameters have been purposely set by studio use and listening not by over analyzing them with test gear. The result is a musical powerhouse ready for tracking, mixing, and mastering.
