For sale is a pair of Yamaha MSR PA speakers which were my main FOH speaker for many years. Later, after upgrading my main speakers, these big heavy buggers became our floor wedges for monitoring onstage, and performed pretty well, although a little more top end would have been nice.
Very popular in their day, these MSR400s can still be seen in the wild, mostly old and unloved.
As you can see from the pics, they’re pretty battered and bruised, but are still in working order and loud as hell. They’ve never been driven past 12 o’clock so the cones and drivers are still in good order as far as I can tell.
The wear and tear to the outer chassis of each speaker is too numerous to list, but imporant things to note are:
The main volume knob on one of the speakers has broken off – but the volume can still be raised and lowered with a finger tip and the 12 o’clock position is easy to recognize as there’s a mid ‘notch’ halfway theough the dial’s travel.The locking nuts that secure the speakers to a stand (available separately) are missing, but can be easily replacedThe grilles of both units are bent inwards giving that real professional look that is popular in working men’s clubsThere’s some rust around the inputs of each unit, nothing to bad, but certainly noticeable.
So of course these have seen better days, but for someone with some engineering and restoration skill, they could be quite usefull as a refurb and sell, or perhaps even a permanent installation in a club or bar etc.
They’re enormously heavy by today’s standards, so please don’t ask me to post them… it’s collection only and will remain so.
