PEAVEY VC-L-2 Vacuum Tube, 2 Channel Optical Compressor/Limiter.
Here is an exceedingly rare chance to own a fantastic all tube, 2 channel optical compressor, and arguably the best professional recording studio gear ever made by Peavey/AMR. These units are much more rare than the matching Peavey VMP2 preamps.

General Information
The Peavey VC/L-2 Tube Optical compressor/limiter was released by Peavey in the early 1990’s. It is an all analog tube path. Utilizing 1 EL84, 2 12AX7, and 1 12AT7 tubes per channel. 8 tubes total!The input transformers are original, incredible, and made by Reichenbach (now Cinemag-confirmed by Cinemag to me).
The unit has both 1/4″ input/output, or balanced transformer in/out.
The meters are SIFAM brand, and made in the UK. (this is not your typical Peavey item!) The power supply of this unit is robust, and not cheap as found on some modern “vintage copy” gear.
120VAC input only
I own three of these units, as I think they are absolutely incredible, and am selling the one I have not modified (because it is in such excellent condition). This unit is original and has been tested, it sounds magical. You can also daisy chain these…running the output from one channel into the input of the second…to increase the analog tube/compressor sound, or run compressor to limiter.
Operates in Compressor or Limiter Mode via a switch. There is no stereo link switch on these. But if you’re interested I can tell you how to install one (though I never use mine)
I use this on all my recordings….over multiple other compressors. It’s just that good!
This, and the Peavey VMP2 preamps, are the only Peavey units I would consider incredible, and they’re American!
ConditionThe unit is in truly excellent cosmetic condition, with few scratches and little sign of wear. All electronics and tubes appear original. The unit is for racking and the rubber feet are not present.
