I have for salea Ribbon Reslo MicrophoneIt is in fantastic condition and still has its original box fromWright and Weare. It has been fully testedon the Ferrograph listed in my other sale and sounds totally brilliant! It comescomplete with its own stand and over five metres of cable. This gem of a microphone is exactly the same type asused by the Beatles (Abbey Road)in the Cavern Liverpool (See picture of JohnLennon)It was also the type often used by TheBBC due to its high quality. Thisis a Very Rare and Very Collectable item. Ribbon microphones are the most natural mics that you can use to capturethe sound of an instrument, a voice, and even the ambience of a room. Due totheir figure-of-8 polar pattern, massive low-end pick-up, and natural high-frequencyroll-off, ribbons really hear more like your ears than any other mic out there. If youre a musician and have struggled to capture the natural sound ofyour instrument, its time to try a ribbon mic. Maybe youve gone to recordingstudios, friends houses, and youve even bought some mics, but youvestruggled to truly record your instrument the way you hear it. A ribbon micwill fix that. Ribbons are the warmest, most natural sounding mics in theworld. A ribbonmicrophone, also known as a ribbonvelocity microphone, is a type of microphone that uses a thin aluminium, duraluminum or nanofilm of electrically conductiveribbon placed between the poles of a magnet to produce a voltage by electromagnetic induction. Ribbon microphones are typically bidirectional, meaning that they pick up sounds equally well from either side of themicrophone. In a moving-coil microphone, the diaphragm is attached to a light movablecoil that generates a voltage as it moves back and forth between the poles ofa permanent magnet. In ribbon microphones, a lightmetal ribbon is suspended between the poles of a magnet. As the ribbonvibrates, a voltage is induced at right angles to both the ribbon velocityand magnetic field direction and is picked off bycontacts at the ends of the ribbon. Ribbon microphones are also called”velocity microphones” because the induced voltage is proportional tothe velocity of the ribbon and thus of the air particles in the sound wave, unlike in some other microphones where the voltage is proportional to thedisplacement of the diaphragm and the air.The advantage of the ribbon microphone when introduced was that thelight ribbon had a much higher natural resonant frequency than diaphragms inexisting microphones, above hearing range, so it had flatter response at highfrequencies. The directionalityof ribbon mics is another fascinating and useful aspect of their design. Allribbon mics are naturally bidirectional, giving them a figure-8 polar pattern. The reason for this is that sound pressure arriving from the side of the thinribbon element wont cause it to move at all, since the pressure on both sidesof the ribbon is identical. The applications for this figure-8 directionalityare endless. For instance, ribbon mics were long-time favorites of radio andtelevision talk show hosts, because a single mic could capture both sides of aconversation, while the mics sides could be pointed at the audience orequipment to block out noise. But by far the coolest thing about ribbon mics istheir unique non-linearity, which ribbon mic guru and founder of AEAMicrophones Wes Dooley describes this way: Ribbon mics hear like your ears.Although this isnt entirely true, the sonic output of a ribbon mic isremarkably honest and accurate. While for some sources you want a microphone to beflattering, ribbon mics are great when you want your recordings to soundtotally natural. Condenser mics and dynamics are going to add a color to yoursound you may not like; whereas a quality ribbon mic will let you record theexact tone youve crafted. Its little wonder so many guitarists love them!Ribbon microphones are the most natural mics that you can use to capturethe sound of an instrument, a voice, and even the ambience of a room. Due totheir figure-of-8 polar pattern, massive low-end pick-up, and naturalhigh-frequency roll-off, ribbons really hear more like your ears than any othermic out there.Happy Biddingand Good Luck!!
