Roland MMP-2 Custom PMVA Display !
PASSIVE MATRIX VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
(Super Enhanced Black) LED Backlit.
Amber, White or Blue available.
Amazing Custom PMVA Super Black LED display. Designed specifically for the Roland MMP-2. This display was designed from scratch to perfectly compliment the MMP-2 with ZERO design compromises. It has a number of unique features not usually found on any other display.
In keeping with my shop philosophy, I wanted to design a custom ‘LUX’ upgrade specifically for the MMP-2, not only operationally correct, but also visually beautiful. A perfect match for the MMP-2 chassis. Until now, its not been possible to upgrade this Roland instrument in any way.
This display has a number of unique design features.
Technical specs are as follows.
1. PMVA ( Super Enhanced Black ) LCD Panel.
The performance of this Passive Matrix Vertical Alignment display, completely blows away any standard Twisted Nematic LCD.
Contrast ratio is an amazing 1000:1 !
PMVA is visually indistinguishable from OLED !
2. Custom Optimised Metal Bezel.
Bezel width and height have been specified perfectly to match the dimensions of the old standard ROHM display. Very little light escapes from the bezel on this PMVA display. This is the complete opposite of the standard ROHM COG display which bleeds light everywhere. Once this display is installed, the front panel looks much better in general. Particular attention has been paid to how the metal bezel fits and looks, with the backlight sealed tight inside.
3. Custom Unique ‘Notched’ Open Entry Interface.
The interface on this display is a unique open notched design to allow easy entry of the pins from the old display. When the old display is removed, its pins are kept in place (see instructions) This is the key to the PMVA being very easy to install. Because the pins are reused. NO desoldering and NO modifications are required. Only basic soldering skills are needed to resolder the pins to the new display. Mounting the PMVA display is easy because the interface is open. The old display can be removed, PMVA bolted in / soldered in mins. Simple step by step instructions can be viewed with the link below. Basic skills ONLY are required to install !

3. Pixel Size Optimised for the MMP-2.
Pixel size and positioning were calculated specifically to match the old ROHM COG display. (see pictures) Character size, position, spacing are exactly identical to the old standard lcd display.

4. Roland Menu Optomised Contrast Voltage.
Contrast voltage has been optimised for the MMP-2. This allows the display to Plug N Play from the Roland menu without any additional modifications. NO potentiometers or additional circuits are required. Optimal setting is around menu setting (8) on every MMP-2 (exactly midway) Before installing the PMVA display, you should set the display contrast roughly to that value. 5. Optimised Desktop Viewing angle.
Correct 6 o’clock viewing angle required for keyboard / desktop use. The viewing angle has been set during manufacture, optimised precisely for the way the MMP-2 is used. When the display is adjusted from the menu, its contrast and viewing angles behave in a very precise way. Its not necessary to constantly make adjustments.
6. Amber, White or Blue LED Backlight !
There are 3 choices of backlight. Each one uses specific LED’s that colour. There are NO colour filters or trickery of any kind. The LED’s in the backlight are actual Amber, White or Blue LED’s. The performance of all 3 displays is spectacular due to the special PMVA panel and custom backlight. The Amber display was produced for anyone wanting a ‘retro’ look. The response, performance of each display is equally exceptional, therefore, colour choice should be based only on what ‘you’ think looks best.

PMVA is visually indistinguishable from OLED, but without the initialization problems associated with OLED. Every menu behaves perfectly, there is absolutely NO glitching or gremlins of any kind, on any menu. Everthing is completely rock solid. Response is instant with ZERO ghosting.This display is unique and the only way to upgrade your MMP-2.
Note ! This display was not designed ‘specifically’ to upgrade the Roland. It was designed to replicate perfectly the old ROHM COG display found in the Roland. This is an important point to make. It therefore doesn’t matter which instrument the display is found in, the PMVA is a direct replacement for the display. It may be the case, possibly, there are other instruments, Korg, Yamaha other Rolands etc with this particular ROHM display inside, i’m currently not aware of. I designed the display to work with the Rolands listed below in particular.
