If you’re a Cubase user I can supply you with the MIDI DEVICE file to set your 1080 up as an External Instrument. Just load the file in Cubase and tell Cubase what inputs outputs your 1080 is connected to, now you can load your 1080 as you would a VST and access all the internal patches via Cubase inspector, BY NAME! everything will correspond with your 1080. You only need to do this once and Cubase remembers. You can even add any of your software plugins to the signal path, all in real time, no need to Record the audio to try out your favourite distortion or compression etc on the 1080’s sound.
The MIDI DEVICE file that comes in Cubase is minimal and I spent a good few months expanding it. The expansion slots, cards are now accessible as numbers (patches aren’t named like the internal voices as this would depend on which you had inserted). The Instrument track loaded as the 1080 will changes the performance. All other MIDI channels that you assign to that instrument track will change the corresponding patch/part within the performance, you can set the 1080 to show you the names and watch them change, matching Cubase inspector. Set a performance to be default 1-16 for max potential.
Note: The MIDI DEVICE file isn’t a VST style editor.
