The Roland XV-5080 is a fantastic sounding sound module. This XV comes upgraded, in really nice condition with 4 SR-JV80 expansion boards and has been serviced and upgraded to ensure years of quality enjoyment.
Complete with User Manual book and the following Sound Expansion modules:-
Roland SR-JV80-08, Keyboards of the ’60s & 70s
This is probably the most sought after in the Roland SR-JV80-series of expansion boards.
The sounds are extremely well done, and the programming of the patches gives authenticity. Wonderful sounding organs in spades. For classic rock, blues, oldies, pop, fusion and other styles, this board will provide most of the sounds you’ll ever want.
Roland SR-JV80-0 SR-JV80-02 Orchestral
This board supplies amazing quality sounds of the modern classical orchestra.
Giving the essence of a symphonic orchestra in an beautiful way. Many sounds on this card still hold up against dedicated multi-GB DVD libraries.
Roland SR-JV80-04 Vintage Synth
Another awesome expansion board, giving classic synthesizer patches, including many from Rolands own classic synth lineup. Highly sought after.
Roland SR-JV80-07 Super SoundSet
Contains nearly all of the waveforms, patches and rhythm sets found in Rolands highly acclaimed SO-PCM Card Series. A very useful expansion.
This unit has been future proofed against potential problems with a full recap of the surface mount capacitors on the main and expansion board and a new cap fitted on the sound modules. A new high quality power supply is fitted. It remains fully serviceable in the future as the upgrades are fully documented and the parts are very high quality from Mouser and RS, not cheap rubbish!
Many of these XV-5080 synths are failing, producing distorted sounds. Roland have also warned that the SR-JV80 expansion boards need a new capacitor fitting to prevent destructive failures. A quick search around the web will confirm this. Don Solaris has a lot of information about the XV-5080 and other Roland synths.
This unit has been serviced to replace all the surface mount capacitors with high quality Nichicon CD series Low Impedance 105 deg. C rated high quality capacitors.
22 Nichicon CD series caps fitted to main board and 14 to the Expansion card board.
The original PSU has been upgraded with a much higher quality modern design, the XP power ECM40UT33.
The SR-JV80 sound expansion modules have each had a replacement Nippon Chemi-Con KMQ series 25V 100uF high quality capacitor fitted to replace the surface mount caps, which Roland has advised can dramatically fail and destroy the expansion module.
The main board has a new high quality STMicro LDO voltage regulator (KF33BDT-TRl) and a static protection transil diode has been fitted to the main board and one to the PSU.
Full documentation of the upgrades will be provided for your information.
The Roland XV-5080 128-Voice Synthesizer Module is a highly regarded flagship sound module based on one of the best-sounding, most expressive and expandable new synthesizer/sample player architecture in Roland history. With a massive 128 voices, the it is capable of extensive layering and multitimbral applications.
The big screen allows for easy editing on the unit and Roland provide a PC and Mac based free sound editors too for easy sound editing on your computer.
Many output options, 8 analogue outputs, Optical or Co-axial S/P DIF output and R-bus.
There are true stereo waveforms per tone, expressive Matrix Control, expandability via 4 expansion slots for 64MB SRX-series waveboards (when converted into 16-bit linear format) and four SR-JV80 expansion slots.
The sounds include those from the JV-2080 plus many more new sounds and waveforms from the JD-990 and Super JD. Packed with the most professional features you can find in a synthesizer, the XV-5080 has plenty of quality built-in digital effects including reverb and effects derived from Roland SRV-3030, V-Studios, and RSS technology. There is an R-Bus port which provides eight-channel 24-bit digital output to other R-Bus devices as well as the S/P DIF digital output options! The XV-5080 is compatible with Roland S-700 and Akai S1000 CD-ROMs via its SCSI port. The sample-memory can be expanded up to 128MB, allowing you to load, edit and playback sounds from these libraries.
NOTE: The synth does have some light cosmetic marks to the lower edge of the front panel, this is shown on the photos. It also has some scratches here and there, e.g. you can see such on the rear of the unit, particularly where the MIDI cables plug in. The manual looks dog-eared and has sellotape on the spine and first few pages with small tears on the cover. It is pretty good though, I am just giving you the full picture. Finally, 2 of the expansion card bay cover screws are missing. These are Taptite threaded M3 x 6mm pan head screws. There are still 2 screws fitted so it is not a big deal, I did order some replacements but in error got standard thread not Taptite, so of course they didn’t fit. You can buy 100 of them for 5 pounds or so if you want to.
