Great sounding, fully working pair of PA Speakers. Drivers are Volt B220DS 8 Ohm 8″ Bass Mid & Celestion HF50 Type T3241 8 Ohm Supertweeters. They are In very heavy solid MDF black painted front tuned bass ported Cabinets. 1/4″ Jack connection on the rear.
I never liked these type of connectors on anything and these are no different and need jiggling occassionally to ensure they are connected. I would recommend that the buyer upgrades these to XLR or Speakon. I got some bits to do this years ago, along with stand hats but never got round to fit either as they weren’t being used. Not least because haven’t got it a hole saw big enough to fit the hats or any stands!
Estimate handling is about 150W into 8 ohms.
Condition is lightly used. They have no major dings or scratches. Minor blemishes have been touched up with Matt black paint rather than original semi gloss finish.
I bought these when they looked brand new in the mid 80s, from a AV hire business bankruptcy sale as far as I can recollect. They only saw occassional use to supplement a pair of Professional Wharfdale E90s in larger venues or as the main speaker at house parties in a high quality amateur Disco set up. We got fed up with poor quality invariably too loud distorted compressed sound and poor music choice in so called professional mobile DJs that people tended to hire at the time (and still do). So we set up a far superior sounding system that was then only used for Scout and Guide functions, friends and family parties and weddings and a few years at Billericay Rugby club functions However those days are long gone and they have been in storage for the last 30 years They Sound great for such small speakers solid controlled tuneful bass with sparkling highs. Good enough to sit in a good home Hi Fi set up really which is what I have just connected them to to test.
I understand the latest derivative Volt driver is now known as BM220.1 and these have been spotted advertised at 136 each with HF50s going at 29 each. So with the cabinets and crossovers etc these pair of speakers represent a great bargain.
They are over 10kg each and dimensions 42cm High, 29cn Wide and 27cm deep
The only way I can pack and courier them safely is in separate boxes hence the slightly high cost of p&p and insurance. Courier to Highlands and Islands etc will also attract a surcharge at cost.
You are also welcome to collect from PE10 0QA and pay cash on collection if you are satisfied with how they sound etc. If you aren’t then I will happily approve cancelling the order.
