Untitled DocumentCreate music from the ether; eerie sci-fi, psychedelic, ambient, rock, classical etc. by moving the hand towards or away from the pitch antenna. We’ve had requests from customers to add some new features to our popular LV-2 theremin. The new LV-2H pitch only theremin has these added improvements. It has an input connector for a power adaptor, a threaded microphone stand adaptor and an easily accessible battery compartment, in a very robust new case.
Believed to be the earliest electronic musical instrument developed 100 years ago, the theremin – named after its inventor Leon Theremin, is unique in that it is played without being touched! The science bit: This is a transistorised, 2 Oscillator, Analogue theremin, using the heterodyning principle.
It has coils in its oscillators that react with each other to generate the classic theremin tone.Although this is a pitch only theremin, great care has been taken developing a true analogue theremin sound. It is very stable (stays in tune!) and has a fully playable 5 octave range, from 0 – 50cm (20″) between hand and antenna. There’s also a vintage germanium diode in the detector stage and it comes with controls for volume and pitch adjustment. Being a pitch only theremin there is no volume loop but you can use a standard passive volume pedal.
Not included, is a 9 volt, PP3 or Duracell # MN1604 battery (rectangular – commonly used in guitar fx pedals) as we are no longer allowed to send them through the post.
The theremin has no internal speaker, so it must be used with an amplifier. Not just to amplify but also for the theremin to work properly.
Instrument amplifiers for electric guitars, keyboards etc. work well. Hi-fi, active computer speakers can work but may need an appropriate lead. The theremin has a MONO 1/4″ (6.35mm) jack output for a standard electric guitar lead. It won’t power earphones, you will need an amplifier. Please see our other listings for more theremins.
