If you are buying a Shure 51 on Ebay that is NOT promised to work or work well at that…you are asking for trouble. About half the Shure 51’s I’ve come across do not work or just barely. This one however sounds great with a strong clear signal and works great on all 3 adjustment levels. This has a classic older “rockabilly” sound and this actually makes a fantastic harp mic. It comes with the original (but modified) cable shown so that you may use any modern XLR cable. You are looking at a Shure Brothers 51 Dynamic microphone that is equipped with the Multi impedance switch. This 51 was manufactured in Evanston, ILL sometime between 1964 and 1969 after the 51 model changed to the black foam screens. This one was the 2nd generation 51 with black foam screens and was only made for a few years before the 51 was discontinued forever. I believe Shure Brothers stopped manufacturing this mic in 1969 or 1970. These mics have a little weight to them being almost 2 pounds. The 51 has clean, deco styling with elegant looks and was a favorite microphone used for several years by musical legend Nat King Cole earlier in his career as seen in pictures # 2. This Shure 51 had the satin chrome finish with rectangular silver badge. The finish shows very lite wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings or dents but there are a few tiny scratches and some small bubbling in the satin chrome finish. Still, way above average for these Shure 51’s. The ribs are straight with no fractures. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should as well and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The black foam screen is perfect with no discoloration as it’s actually new as I had to replace what was left of the old one. The foam just falls apart when it gets to be around 30 years old. This new foam looks really nice and should last at least 30 to 40 years without any issue. The threading for the stand is perfect as is for the cable. You’ll notice there is a short cable included with the mic. I cut it down to just 8 inches and soldered a quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector onto it. So much more practical for everyday use. No more long 15 foot of mess to roll up. Just leave the 3 pin connector screwed onto the mic and then attach a modern XLR cable to the shorter one provided when you’re ready to use the mic. This gorgeous 51 is ready to go. MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE…USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. The I do have several older desk and floor stands in my Ebay store if needed? As with all my vintage microphones… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not…I have a no hassle return policy.
