Vintage 1973 Pre Rola era single speaker very rare low production volume 8 OHM (16 ohm were mass produced) Celestion Greenback with Pulsonic cone Speaker
This speaker is one of the holy grails of Celestion Speakers from the 60 70’s and the extremely rare 8 ohm AND NOT the 16 ohm type which were mass produced in comparison and sell for a quarter of the price .
A pair of vintage 1973 Celestion G12H Greenback guitar speakers–the hyper-scarce, large-magnet, 8-ohm version. Some of the rarest Celestions ever produced, these speakers are highly sought-after and are growing increasingly hard to come by.
Sale is for one speaker however i have a second one that will be listed separately (1973 also Pulsonic code 4 cones). Pre-rola celestions are generally considered to be some of the best sounding guitar speakers ever made. They are also very collectable due to their association with old 60’s amplifiers(mainly Marshall), and guitar icons such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton that were using them back in the day.
This speaker was made on 12th April 1973 right in the middle of the change over of factory of the original Pre Rola speakers production line. The cones are stamped 3 as pictured so would indicate original Pulsonic cones manufactured between1973-75. It does have the typical ‘pre-rola’ label as pictured please notice the Thames Ditton Surrey address on the speaker label.
The 8 ohm Speakers were produced in lower numbers hence rarity and as such the 8 Ohm models transitioned later, and some as late as 1975 to the new factory

Why Do Pre-rolaGreenbacks Sound Better Than Modern Greenbacks?
This is down to the cones themselves and they were known to be made by a company called ‘Pulsonic’. Unfortunately the factory is thought to have burnt down at the end of 1973 and with it went the formula for making those amazing sounding cones.
The pulsonic cones were actually being used from roughly mid 1962 through to late 1973. This fits in nicely with the date stamp on the speaker and cone production series.
Cash on collection only so you can test the speakers first This means no postage at all or even collection by your courier .Will be shown working before purchase I can also show ohm meter reading for the resistance and will put a 50hz SINE wave through to demonstrate no coil rub.
You can test the speakers to your full satisfaction before final purchase to ensure you are 100% happy with your purchase. Sorry no returns but you are welcome to fully inspect test item before collection.
