For sale a beautiful vintage discrete mixing desk – British made c/1972 this I believe is possibly Alice’s first mixer designed by Ted Fletcher prior to the creation of the cult classic 828. Perfect as a sidecar mixer to a cleaner system, or as a summing mixer. It is an upgraded 6/1/2 mixer – 6 mic/lines, 1 aux send with L/R return, and 2ch mix bus but has been modified for many more purposes.

6 x Discrete transformer balanced Mic/Line preamps – Original transistor based mic-preamps balanced with 5 x Beyer transformers & 1 x Sowter transformer: These are lovely characterful microphone preamps which have been balanced, decent gain for most recording applications perhaps not whisper quiet levels. Sound fantastic with strong sources, with a great thick sound and low noise. Also work very well as line amps for running things through for a little more warmth. These have been fitted with XLR connectors in conjunction with the 1/4″ line inputs on the top panel.

3 band EQ on each channel with High shelf / inductor based mid-boost / Low shelf: Nice useful little EQ one each channel with an interesting mid-boost using an inductor, hard to know exactly at which frequency but its in the hi-mid range

Transistor limiter on mix bus: This is a neat extra, a slightly wild limiter to put things through – to shave the peaks it is really useful, but it pumps and slams like a crazy thing, not the most quiet but it is part of what makes this mixer such a useful sidecar for more ‘hairy’ things like drums of course, and bass and guitars and the usual things.

8ch Dsub Passive Summing Inputs – 8 channel (4 x L&R pairs) passive summing input on Dsub DB25 connector – added as a simple way to utilise the compressor and mixing bus from typically the DAW. Great for sending stuff through when it is set and automated/processed in the DAW. This can compliment the 6 mic/line inputs to make 14 channels at mixdown.

Direct outs – Each channel has direct outs on 8 ch Dsub DB25 connector for use in tracking situations Ch 1to 6 and Mix Bus out on 7/8.

Sifam VU meters

Various upgrades – The power supply transformer was upgraded and replaced to give greater headroom and some caps have been recently replaced. I even bought new aluminium knobs for it to make it look smarter – that’s how nerdy I am!
This will make a lovely rare sidecar or main mixer for someone looking for some classic character and vibe. The mixer is in great condition though still exhibits signs of its maturing age, some scratchy pots and the like – nothing that will stop you from making great recordings and processing stuff through it. Very sad to see it go but it has stood me in good stead as a much loved fill-into my larger desk which is coming out of repair now.

POSTAGE IS OFFERED TO THE UK & EU ONLY – it will not be cheap as I will not send the item untracked or uninsured. COLLECTION IS CLEARLY RECOMMENDED.
