You are looking at a Shure Brothers 730A crystal cardioid microphone produced during the late 1930’s through the 1940’s and probably one of the most outrageous mic designs of all time. It was an ultra modern design with a sophisticated element being quite expensive and this was a model that was often used by Billie Holiday as seen in pic # 2. The 730’s design incorporated an aviation theme with the front screen replicating a 4 prop radial engine. Many of these older mic designs were influenced by the aviation, and automobile industry that had captured the countries imagination at that time. While most crystal mics were cheap, entry level mics of that era the 730 was by no means cheap. This was a sophisticated cardioid model that was the best money could buy and the 730 was far more expensive than most crystal mics being sold. It should noted however that this mic has been tested and like most 730 models 80 years later…it no longer works. It does have all of it’s components inside and out. The 730A itself is in very good overall physical condition. It has typical wear in the satin chrome housing but otherwise not bad. Small spots of chrome loss and fine pitting with a few small scratches. The front and rear grill are free of any dents or fractures and the lower satin chrome pistol grip has a nice luster. The joint mechanism on this mic has lots of tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the head backwards as needed. The Shure 730A badge shows heavy wear and barely legible. The front Shure logo on the front screen looks great though. This is the 2nd generation (1940’s era) 730 model as the earlier 1930’s model did not have the Shure logo on the front screen. The Front silk screen is evenly colored but there are a couple tiny rips that are hard to see even up close. The rear silk screen is perfect. I’d rate the cosmetic condition of this mic a true 7 on a scale of 1 – 10. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE… The Snyder DM-1 model desk stand is made with a heavy cast iron base and comes with original chrome stem / riser. This desk stand is from the 1950’s era is perfect for just about any screw on mic or mic clip you can think of. Just a few years newer than the 730 mic. The style is very similar to the earlier 30’s era stands with it’s 3 tier “waterfall” design. This stand is built like a tank and looks likes great. The black paint looks very nice with just lite wear and the chrome stem looks good with just lite wear on the polished chrome finish. There are zero rust stains on the bottom and the 3 original felt pads are still present and look great. Total length is 6 1/2 inches tall x 4 3/4 inches wide and weighs just under 2 pounds. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. This is perfect for small to medium sized microphones. This stand is an easy 7 + on a scale of 10. And as always… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not…I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that’s fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition…period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and…thanks for looking. Model 730B Brand Shure
